Psychosexual Therapy

Psychosexual therapy, otherwise known as sex therapy or sexology, is counselling tailored to the needs of clients in relation to sexual health and wellbeing.

Sex therapy focuses on sexual difficulties experienced as an individual or within a relationship. Like other forms of therapy, sex therapists are trained to provide a range of therapeutic interventions catered to the needs of clients.

Here are some common reasons people seek sex therapy:

  • Education
  • Desire difficulties
  • Self esteem or body image issues
  • Performance anxiety
  • Arousal difficulties
  • Orgasm difficulties (too quick, too slow, or not at all)
  • Painful sex
  • STI’s
  • Sexual assault
  • Erectile dysfunction, premature or delayed ejaculation
  • Mismatched libido
  • Sexual or gender identity difficulties
  • Coming out
  • Cultural issues
  • Stress, anxiety or depression
  • Sex after having a baby or major change in your life
  • Compulsive sexual behaviours
  • Improving communication
  • Exploring non-traditional approaches to sexual intercourse
  • Kinks and fetishes

How can sex therapy help you?

As a qualified psychosexual therapist, I will work with you to identify presenting sexual difficulties, goals and treatment options. This involves an integrated response to sexual health by providing therapeutic intervention and psycho-education.

I will work with you to resolve identified sexual issues or find ways to make the problem have less of an impact on your life. Although goals may differ from client to client, I offer you a safe space to understand your sexual identity and health, and will empower you with tools, knowledge, and confidence to lead a sexually fulfilling and pleasurable life.

Relationship Therapy

Relationship therapy (couples therapy) is counselling for those needing support to navigate relationship difficulties. Relationship therapy will involve couples attending sessions together to identify presenting difficulties, relationship goals, and treatment.

This type of support tends to be long-term, with frequency decreasing with time and stabilization. Relationship therapy is inclusive of those in non-monogamous relationships.

Here are some common reasons people seek relationship therapy:

  • Infidelity
  • Exploring non-monogamy
  • Communication difficulties
  • Mismatched libido
  • Managing life stressors or challenges
  • Relationship changes after a baby
  • Sexual problems
  • Managing mental health

How can relationship therapy help you?

As a relationship therapist, I will provide you with a safe and nonjudgemental space to explore your relationship concerns. I am trained in Gottman Couples Method and Emotion-Focused Therapy, and generally use these approaches unless unsuited to clients. I work with you to identify relationship patterns, attachment injuries, and relationship strengths. Relationship therapy can support you and your partner(s) to feel like a team again by increasing your understanding and compassion for one another, overcoming conflict, and re-establishing intimacy.

General Counselling

Life can feel overwhelming at times, and it’s not always easy to face challenges alone. General counselling provides a supportive space to talk through whatever’s on your mind – whether it’s stress, anxiety, low mood, or simply feeling stuck.

Here are some common reasons people seek general counselling:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Sexual assault support
  • Grief and loss
  • Perinatal therapy
  • Work difficulties
  • Improving communication and assertiveness skills
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Self-esteem

How can general counselling help you?

Together, we’ll explore what’s happening for you, help make sense of your experiences, and find practical ways forward. I can support you in identifying your goals, underlying causes for mental health difficulties, and equip you with the knowledge and confidence to overcome them.

Using evidence-based approaches and a compassionate, person-centred style, my goal is to support you in feeling more grounded, understood, and equipped to navigate life with confidence and clarity.

Perinatal Therapy

Perinatal therapy is counselling for those who are planning a pregnancy, in their pre or postpartum period, or have experienced grief and loss associated with pregnancy. Perinatal therapy is not just for those who have carried or will be carrying the baby, but also for their partner(s).

Perinatal therapy involves therapeutic interventions that assist clients to build their confidence, regulate emotions and mental health, and transition into parenthood. When appropriate, perinatal therapy will also involve joint couples therapy sessions.

Here are some common reasons people seek perinatal therapy:

  • Anxiety and/or depression experienced during pregnancy or postpartum
  • Unplanned pregnancy support
  • Perinatal loss
  • Pre- and post abortion support
  • Adjusting to parenthood
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Birth trauma
  • Bonding difficulties with your baby
  • Infertility
  • Navigating the impact of pregnancy on sexual health and wellbeing

How can perinatal therapy help you?

I have extensive work experience as a perinatal therapist, supporting clients experiencing postnatal depression and/or anxiety, those who have experienced loss, and those experiencing anxiety and/or depression during pregnancy.

Together, we can explore your experiences, support your emotional wellbeing, and help you feel more grounded and connected through this transition. Using evidence-based approaches and a caring, non-judgemental lens, I’m here to support you in navigating parenthood or loss with confidence, clarity, and compassion.
